PATTERNS AND DISPLAYS:
The Plaid Family

Displays in the plaid family can be very variable and in general have a camouflage purpose. These displays are accompanied by a variety of different arm postures. The literal version of plaid consists of a combination of stripes and bars, but other variations can also include only either stripes or bars.

Plaid variation I

Plaid is made up of brown
stripes and bars on a white background on the mantle. Darker dymantic dots may extend from the central bars. The fins are pale. This display may be accompanied by a posture called Full-V.

Plaid variation III

This display can be seen as the inverse version of the plaid variation II display. Here a black central stripe can be observed. The fins are also colored in black and contrast strongly with the white dorsal background. The head shows a dark head bar and blue-green eyebrows, and the arms are splayed and dark towards the outer edge.
