In male-female courtship squid form saddle-stripe pairs. Both sexes may initiate such a sequence. The female rises-above the male and/or the rest of the group while showing the saddle display and the male aligns himself in parallel and over-under position showing the stripe display. In this clip the female even has two interested males. This action may lead to a mating sequence, however, in most cases - like here - these displays are brief acknowledgments of interest.
